I went for a trip up to Brisbane this weekend to see some friends, and while I was there I went to the Lifeline BookFest. I picked up a few books (some I’d read before and wanted to add to my bookshelf, and some that just looked interesting) and ended up buying six, which I thought was a solid amount of books to purchase at one time. But I got to the check-out and some people had a whole trolley of books!
Which got me thinking… some people’s personal libraries must be huge!!!
I personally, don’t own a lot of books. I used to. I used to own a stack but I sold them before I went overseas in 2011 and now I’m slowly starting to build up my collection once more. I now have *counts* 66 books. And 14 of those are Harry Potter books in various editions 🙂 I also own a Sony E-Reader with thousands of books on that, but as far as I’m concerned, that doesn’t count.
How many books do you own? Do you have a massive library or something small like mine?

I still live at home and my family has a ton of books. My sister counted 3,500 a few years ago. Personally, I own much less; but I still have many books in my room and love it.

Short explanation: My dad is a pastor and has his office at home. I’d say 80% of the books are theological. 🙂

Massive. And it used to be even bigger, but a ‘friend’ I trusted to store my books during a displaced time in my life donated all of them, because “I didn’t think you’d care.”
I still haven’t forgiven her. Some of the books I lost then are absolutely irreplaceable.

I have one bookcase and when it starts to overflow I go through it and make a goodwill pile. I love the feeling a case of books adds to a room and have some favorites I may never part with, but we move often and it’s always a balance between being surrounded by things I love and not letting too much weight me down.

I’m excited for the Bundy book fest, it’s so close to home and so cheap!
As for my library, I have about 100 books stacked on the shelf. I realise that’s probably nothing compared to some peoples library’s, but I’m quite content with my little horde. :3

I have about a thousand books. Not sure. I got rid of most of my clothes to make more room in the shelves for books. Cataloguing this lot is going to be paiiiinful.

Fairly large library here, though sadly most of mine are unread, as I tend to pass books on (Except for my absolute favorites and/or reference stuff) when I’m finished with them. I buy them somewhat compulsively though, as the budget allows…

Hi Jodie – yep, a MASSIVE library. Greg (husband) has his own library, too, so currently we have his office and my office filled with what we both like to keep handy, plus one of the bedrooms turned into the library for the rest.

Wow. I thought I had a lot. There’s two bookcases which I continuously have to reshuffle in order to fit new books in the breathing space – I’m lucky there’s somewhere for City of Fallen Angels to go when I’m finished. Plus two mini bookshelves in my bed, for A Song of Ice and Fire and The Roman Mysteries. But there is a small pile of Cassandra Clare and Brandon Sanderson overflow resting up against the wall on top.
And yet I still went down the street last week to get two more! 🙂

659 at last count, though there may be a few more hiding about. I would say I have read almost 98% of them, and the others are in line. This doesn’t count the hundreds I have on my e-reader as well. Some people collect rocks and some people collect stamps. I think my collection is far more valuable. But that is just a personal opinion.

Half of my storage unit is full of boxes of books, because I’ve had to downsize living quarters and it saddens me that they’re not just right there on a shelf where I can grab one. I don’t have tons of physical books. If I read one that I love, I usually give it to a friend to read. If I read one that I don’t like, I give it away. I keep a few favorites and several shelves’ worth of reference books and books that I have yet to read.

I have quite a few books. I have it in minimized space though. I have a double sided book shelf along with a few skinny tall ones. I also got a giant book case for Christmas 🙂 I have about 200 books all together, not including the hundreds I have on my book 🙂

But probably I have about 40-60 books, and 13 of them are harry potter books as well 😀 I also have about 30 books on my ereader, but I seldom read on it. But I would consider the books on your ereader as a library as well, because you have the option of reading and re-reading them again (as long as you don’t delete them). If I should move out, I want to own a big room full of books, something like my very own library.

I don’t have them in front of me, but I’ve probably got a few hundred books in my personal, physical library. BUT NONETHELESS: Harry Potter editions still account for about 20% of my collection… haha 🙂

Too many books to fit on my shelves but not nearly enough to satisfy me! It’s hard to keep an exact count though, because they tend to informally rotate between my shelves and my sister’s. (Having a sibling with the same literary taste = best thing ever!)

I go pretty book crazy, honestly. I leave my local secondhand shop with at least 4 books each time I visit (admittedly a lot of them are usually from the free bin). I have no idea how many physical books I have. Hundreds, I’m sure … I buy some for nostalgia, some because the covers are pretty, some because I’m “supposed” to read them (but never do), and of course some because they were on sale. I’m gradually adding to my Nook e-library, but that collection is still under 100 (for now…). I get rid of some here and there, usually in the rare case that I’m horribly disappointed by it, but when it comes to books, I’m really quite like a dragon with shiny things!

I share a space with my friends now… Here I would hardly have 30 books in my shelf.. and in my Kindle I have around another 30 books… Back at my home my father has a roomful of books and some of them are mine…

I have hundreds of books because I grew up before the era of the e-reader. I hardly ever read physical copies of books anymore. I’m so used to reading on my iphone that it’s hard to read a real book anymore.
