How many books have you read this year?

I set a goal at the beginning of the year to read 25 books in 2014. I set the goal low because I figured with the whole “writing thing”, that I wouldn’t have a lot of time for reading. Apparently I underestimated myself, because I just hit 25 books.

How many books have you read this year? Haveย you read a great number? Or just a couple?

With nearly half the year gone, I’m not even halfway finished my goal. I set a goal of 30 books this year, and I’m only at 9. Too many long books.

I set a goal to read 12 new-to-me authors this year. So far, I’ve read 7 books (one was left over from December and went into the new year), 6 of them new-to-me authors.

  9. ( Pssst… for the Throne of Glass Series, there is a short story collection that is a prequel to Throne of Glass. ( The Assassin ) or you can buy the short stories separately. )

How did you like the Selection series? I have it on my TBR list, but I haven’t “owned up” to them yet. Plus, The Vampire Academy series was a good choice.

I’ve read the Selection Series – and I loved them! I’ve re-read the first and second books twice, and I only read the third book about 2 months ago, or so. Such a great, quick series ๐Ÿ˜€

As of today, I have read 28 books so far this year. I was on pace for more, but hit a really tough non-fiction book that seemed to take more time than I had thought it would. Fortunately, I am a commuter, so I have lots of time to read. My biggest problem is that I have started falling asleep on my ride home.

  15. I set a goal of 45 books for the year, and am close to 30 already (27 or 28 currently, I think). Somehow I still managed to write my next book and a short story…editing them on the other hand…well, that’s been much slower.

I’m currently at 89/100 but if I subtract 2 DNFs and 8 Audio, then I’m 79/100. I will past my goal this year. Last year I was 76/75, so that 1 over felt great. I can’t imagine how many I’ll go over this year.

  20. I’ve read 109 books so far. I’m 9 books behind on my challenge of 250. Sigh. Grad school really messes with fun reading time. I’m at a 30% stat on my NetGalley which I’m trying hard to get up to 50% at least by the end of this month. I like your reads. They kind of mirror mine ๐Ÿ™‚

I wanted to focus on writing, too, but that hasn’t happened yet. I read 71 books last year and this year set the goal at 35 because there are some lengthy titles I want to tackle. I’m already at 28 so I think I may surpass it.

I’m at 20 and need to pick up the pace to hit my goal of 52. Looks like you’ve read some really good ones. Which was your favorite? I’m reading Throne of Glass right now and love it. Was ‘The One’ all that you’d hoped?

I have read 28, with a goal to read 60. Last year I set out to read 100, and I just made it, but it was a struggle. It is hard to juggle reading and writing, but I think I’ll be able to manage 60 easy.

I love your list of books you’ve read this year and have to remind myself that I don’t have time for more shinies right now.

For this year, I’ve changed up my normal reading list and made a point of reading more independent authors and stories that exist solely online. I’ve really enjoyed this experiment and read a wealth of material that I wouldn’t have read normally. Unfortunately, this has made it a lot harder to determine just how many books I’ve actually read! Next year I’ll have to keep better track…

25 books so far this year. My original goal was 2 per month and then in March sometime I realized I was reading 1 per week so I doubled the goal. This is the very first time my goal is on par with yours, Jodie! ๐Ÿ™‚ I feel so accomplished now.
As always, thank you for always pushing us to do more.

You took the really smart route. I got all cocky and estimated 75. I’m currently at 34 (so it’s still attainable), but I’ve found I’ve sacrificed a lot of writing time while trying to hit my goal. So, I think I’m going to own up to my overestimation and return focus to my writing.

I enjoy reading but, I’m embarrassed to say that I haven’t completed one, yet. This has been a busy, emotional year for me, so it is difficult to find or make the time to sit and relax with a good read. However, once my husband and I settle into our new home in another state, I plan to make it a goal to accomplish more reading.

Great for those who do find/make the time to read often. It’s good for the soul & mind. ๐Ÿ™‚

In the past two weeks I’ve read four of Larissa Ione’s novels, and I’m sure you’ve guessed once I find an author I like I get the bug!

Hmm, well, my ereader tells me that I’ve read 32 books (since the 18th of January) but, I’ve also read a couple of paperback books since this year started, so, maybe around 40? Who knows, I’m not really keeping count! ๐Ÿ˜€ I think that’s still a pretty good effort for 6 months tho! ๐Ÿ™‚

Wow, you are on a ROLL, Jodie! I also set a reading goal for myself (as I do every year via Goodreads.com.) My current goal is 30, and while I’m not as awesome as you, I’m closing in on my 13th book of 2014! I am hoping to meet said goal and challenge myself further as the year progresses.

  45. You go girl! I’m terrible at gauging how many books I can read in a year. One year I challenged myself to read 50 but read something like 13 books. So the next year I thought I’d pick a low number like 10 but I ended up reading three times that. I can never strike a good balance between too high and too low, especially since the bulk of my year’s reading is in the summer. My summers are either really busy or not eventful. *end rant*

Anyway, congrats on meeting your goal so soon!
