I’m not really one for weekly memes, but The Broke and the Bookish has a good one this week. They’re asking for the top ten places that books have made you want to travel.
I’ve been lucky enough to travel quite a bit, so I’ve already seen a lot of the United Kingdom and Europe, particularly all the “obvious” places like Paris, Rome, Venice, Amsterdam, London, Greece, etc. But there are a few more places that I’m dying to see as a result of the media:
New Orleans – as seen in the TV show, The Originals
I’m planning an America trip for a couple of weeks in May 2015, but unfortunately New Orleans won’t be on the list. I’d love to see it though. It looks really bohemian and fun.
Harry Potter World, Orlando – inspired by the Harry Potter series
Because how awesome would this place be!
What places are you dying to visit after seeing them in a TV show or movie? Or reading about them in a book?
Ooo, great question! New Orleans would be lovely, I love The Originals and it would be great to visit there. I think the Tomb Raider games have inspired most of m ‘to visit’ locations. I’d love to go to Egypt, Bolivia, Nepal, Tibet so many places really!

Sleepy Hollow, New Orleans, Salem. Rivendell too, but maybe I read different books.

New Orleans is beautiful and full of culture. History books make me want to travel to the sight of old battle fields. Normandy was an amazing experience for me. I want to go to Japan and see Vladimir’s castles

I WILL travel to New Zealand some day because of the Lord of the rings movies. I’m not even that big a fan of those movies, but the scenery is breath taking!:D
I have been to New Orleans several times, and I have to admit, it is beautiful. It’s like visiting another country, and the food is amazing! Enjoy your trip!

New Orleans, no question about it. And Washington/Seattle/Oregon side. Much magic to be found out there, methinks. Not to mention Iceland. Yum. 🙂

Okay not going to lie… New Orleans, Charleston and Roswell were all on my locations during my road trip across the U.S thanks to books/movies and tv shows.
New Orleans thanks to my love affair with Anne Rice (and seeing her home with the shrunken head fence just made the entire US trip for me! Squeal!!!) Charleston because of that stupid freaking Notebook film!!! (It was mainly due to the fact that I am a photographer that I wanted to head to the location to take photos than the appeal of being there as tribute to the movie.) Roswell was more of a ‘we are headed in that direction and need a stopover’. It came from my love affair with the TV show when I was younger. And in all honesty, I didn’t really rate the town. All the shops were closed down and it was just a bit eerie.
Oh and Romania because we wanted to see ‘Dracula’s Castle’. That was probably the one trip that was most influenced by a book 😀

I know I’m a copycat but New Orleans and The Harry Potter park are on the top of my list. Also, New Zealand because of LOTR and Prince Edward Island thanks to my childhood fixation with Anne of Green Gables. I’d probably round out my wish list with New York City, Ireland, England, Scotland, and France. Phew!
