It’s interesting because I could recommend a lot of books to people, but I generally hold back because a lot of them just aren’t appropriate… for example, I adore the Sinners on Tour series, but I wouldn’t recommend that series to many people because they’re erotic fiction.
One of my favourite books to recommend is The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls. When people discover I’m an avid reader and ask me what I recommend, this is always my fall back novel. Why? Because I loved it, and it’s a memoir, so it’s appropriate to recommend to everyone.
What are novels that you recommend?
Star of the Sea by Joseph O’Connor. It’s fantastic!

Never even heard of it! What’s it about?

City of Thieves by David Benioff who also wrote The 25th Hour (made into a pretty sharp film by Spike Lee) Thieves is set in and around Stalingrad during WWII. I am not a fan of WWII stuff generally but this a fine novel.

I understand holding back on recommending erotic fiction (sometimes). I probably wouldn’t suggest any of those types of books to my mom. But, I have suggested Sinners on Tour to many. I love the series. I think suggesting books is about knowing the people and trying to help introduce them to books they will enjoy. BTW, I would also suggest Olivia Cunning’s One Night With Sole Regret Series.

God I just love that series so much 🙂 Olivia Cunning is so brilliant sometimes.
I just started the Stage Dive series by Kylie Scott and I’m enjoying it so far.

I also love the Glass Castle . . . in fact, I often make my teen students read this book. It’s a good way to make them put their complaints about their own family life in perspective! Generally, though, I’m recommending books for younger people, so it just depends on what their interests are. My go-to authors are always Kate DiCamillo and Michael Morpurgo.

Hum.. depends on what I’ve been reading at the time. The Hobbit and Lord of the RIngs Trilogy is always on my suggestion list as is the Vlad Taltos series. Otherwise, it depends on what I’m reading and what the person asking tends to read.

Hi 🙂
I will suggest books if they are lovers of the genre, but I read books that offend some people.

My favourite is either ‘The Magus’ – John Fowles, ‘Midnight’s Children’ – Salman Rushdie or ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest’ – Ken Kesey. But it depends on my mood.

It depends so much on who’s asking as to what I recommend. I usually ask a lot of questions about what they like, genre and style, and whether they want to try something a bit different. At my place I usually end up dragging them into my study and handing them half a dozen, and seeing what appeals most.
