You know those books that you could just read over and over and over again… they are pretty rare 🙂 Today I want to celebrate the books that you adore. That you have on your bookshelf, and have read so many times that they’re practically falling to pieces.
Which book have you re-read the most?
For me, it would have to be the Harry Potter series. I started reading them when the first three were out and read them every single year in preparation for the next books release 🙂 Oddly enough, since reading the 7th book in 2007, I haven’t read them again. It might be time to revisit!

It’s a toss-up between Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. Harry Potter I started younger (9 as opposed to 13), and it holds a special place in my heart as the series that made me want to be a writer, but then I did a Tolkien module at uni so read LOTR a couple times within that year.

Definitely the HP series, as well! 1st and 3rd most frequently. I also have them all on audio read by Stephen Fry for long (and short!) car trips, so I’ve heard them over and over again, too.
My other favourite book is Un Lun Dun by China Mieville. A truly spectacular book by a magnificent writer. I’ve been very pleased by his books that I’ve read (Un Lun Dun, King Rat, and Perdido Street Station).

Read more Mieville. I’m yet to be disappointed by him. I just finished Railsea, which made me decide that I really have to buckle down and read Moby Dick. And I only just now noticed the similarity between Mievelle and Melville.

I tend to not re-read fiction, as I already know the ending. However, I have read 7 Habits for Highly Effective People many times. Also I read the Bible cover to cover every year.

Harry Potter for me too – I picked them up at the perfect age – 11, and then read the first four around 10 times in two years. Pretty much every year from the age of 11 until I was 22, a new book or a new movie was released, and the books would come off the bookshelf again. Others would probably be the Tomorrow, When the War Began series by John Marsden, and Jane Eyre.

Hmm, I’d say a three way split between Ethan Frome (3-4x), The Samurai’s Garden (2x plus assorted excerpts), and Who Put That Hair in My Toothbrush? (4x at least)

I like reading older books, mostly horror. “The horror in the museum” :The Shuttered Room” I also like to listen to my short horror “Tina” on Audible just because the narrator did such an amazing job!

For me, I’ve read the Harry Potter series over and over again. I also have this weird fondness for these three books from Jacqueline Wilson which I’ve read to many times I’ve lost count of: Cookie, My Sister Jodie and Bad Girls.

Rereading is a VERY rewarding activity. Think how people for millennia have listened to the same mythology over and over, the same ghost stories, the same children’s tales. The Hero’s Journey.
My list:
1. The Lord of the Rings. TEN TIMES OR MORE. Lost count.
2. The Case of Charles Dexter Ward, and The Dream Quest of Unknown Kadath, by H. P. Lovecraft. Like five times each. Now I actually teach a class around Lovecraft.
3. The Harry Potters. I have read the series twice through, and reread “Prisoner of Azkaban” three times.

Persuasion by Jane Austen – I read it every couple of months. I just love the way these two love each other, even after their hearts are shredded because they believe the other has moved on. A close second would be Sense & Sensibility because being the eldest of the girls (plus a brother) I really identify with Elinor.

When I was in high school and for a bit after, I reread Gone With the Wind. I think I kept hoping it would end differently. I’ve probably read The Stand a half dozen times. As started getting older I realized I might not have time to read all the great books out there, so I stopped rereading. I have read The Book Thief a couple of times. And I am going to reread Pillars of the Earth to prepare for reading the sequel. And I do plan to reread The Goldfinch, because I rushed through it so fast the first read. Good lord, there are so many undiscovered books out there, too.

Probably Harry Potter. I have read the series every summer since I was 7. The books just keep getting better every time I read them as I find new things I missed when I read them previously. My friends and I usually read them around the same time and have created a book club almost where we discuss the books.

Depends in my mood but faithful re-reads for inspiration & love of story are: Harry Potter by JK Rowling, BDB series by JR Ward and many classics… I’m quite eclectic that way.

I do hit the Harry Potter books now and again, especially now that I have them in ebook form (easy reading during workouts or elsewhere). Each time I pick up on a few bits that I’ve forgotten about!
Others? I read Mark Danielewski’s House of Leaves every couple of years or so–HUGE fan of that book. I’ll also reread the Douglas Adams’ Hitchhikers series as well, because it’s just so much fun. I’ll also admit to rereading Dave Sim’s Cerebus series and Katsuhiro Otomo’s Akira.

I read all the HPs every year to prepare for the new book as well! I think I’ve managed to read them all every year since I read the first 13 years ago though. I just love them so much. Plus I downloaded all of the audio books a couple of years ago and have managed to go through those numerous times as well. When I was younger, I would reread The Neverending Story. In high school I read A Walk to Remember quite a few times. Nowadays there are so many books I want to read that I don’t spend a lot of time rereading. Anything Madeleine L’Engle has written never gets old, though, and I like to do a reread before a movie-watch to compare and contrast. What a beautiful thing to create a world people love to revisit time after time!

Anne Bishop’s Black Jewels Trilogy is my go-to guilty pleasure when I want some fluff (which is a couple of times a year). I re-read Tamora Pierce’s Circle of MAgic books every spring. I usually re-read The Dresden Files before reading the new one that is released each year.

There are two sets of books I reread annually. The Star Wars Thrawn Trilogy by Timothy Zahn and the Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson.
